Exeter's Location

A short stroll through Exeter's historic downtown is all that's needed to understand why so many people are drawn to this quaint New England community. Approximately 10 miles from the coast, Exeter was actually a booming seaport in the 1700's when gundalows would transport lumber headed for England along the river which feeds into Great Bay and eventually out into the Atlantic Ocean. Today, that same river winds through downtown past popular restaurants and shops for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.

Phillips Exeter Academy, one of America's oldest and most prestigious boarding schools, contributes to Exeter's charm with a sprawling campus that abuts downtown and features historical buildings and open spaces.

Homes in Exeter sold on average for $405,000 in 2017 and with a large housing inventory to choose from (more than 6,000 households according to 2010 Census) buyers should be able to find something that fits their budget. Property taxes in Exeter are currently on the higher end though for the Seacoast region and should be taken into consideration when determining your monthly mortgage payment.
